We don’t only want to live longer (read our previous blog HERE) but we also want to look damn good and feel even better while we do so! Sadly, ageing is inevitable, and we cannot prevent it… but we sure can delay it little!
Neither of us have an interest to be in our twenties again BUT, oh my – wouldn’t it be nice to feel 20 again: all the energy, the supper fast metabolism, the I-can-do-anything attitude?
Here is how to look & feel younger:
1. Be a Social Queen / King
Friends and family are good for the soul and have a great effect on your life span. It is often said that laughter is the best medicine – and that’s what friends are good for!
2. Be Creative & Learn Something New
Get arty, get messy – get your hands covered in paint and glitter. Your children will sure enjoy it too. Being creative makes us happier, think clearer, and help us to have a better quality of life. Or keep challenging your brain and keep it from declining by learning a new skill. Singing, dance classes, or join a drama course… anything!
3. Exercise – Move!
Be it anything from working in the garden to taking a brisk walk outside. Aim for at least 3 – 6 hours of activity each week to get your heart going (sex counts too!) Strengthening your muscles (strength training, body weight exercises, weight-training) will also leave you less vulnerable to injuries and builds your stamina.
4. Protect Your Skin
Yes, tanned skin looks beautiful at that time, but it won’t look like that in a few years time. Although it is good to get some vitamin D, the sun’s rays cause more than 90% of the damage to your skin, including – wrinkles, rough patches and skin blemishes. Use sunscreen to also prevent skin cancer and make sure to moisturise your body and face every day.
5. Quit Smoking
It is an unhealthy habit which causes wrinkles due to narrowing your blood vessels and limiting the blood from getting to the top layer of your skin. Not to mention it causes cancer, heart disease, and lung disease – none of which will make you feel or look young.
Getting enough sleep is the easiest way to feel younger. It is the only time your body can truly restore itself, it helps build a more vibrant body and brain. And most of us are not getting as much sleep as we need, aim for 6 1/2 to 71/2 hours of a good sleep.
7. Binge on Fruit & Veggies
Loading up on the vitamins and antioxidants from fruits and vegetables will make you feel refreshed, recharged, and energised. Especially vitamin C which is essential for your body to make collagen (protein that keeps your skin firm and elastic). Say hello there strawberries!
8. Treat Yourself
Get the look – prolonging the vitality of your skin, your hair, and your body will make you feel more confident and youthful, so YEAH enjoy that salon visit – completely guilt-free!
