The Power of Muscle
This month we look at the benefits of the sports massage, which is often overlooked by many, particularly if you are training or working out for continued periods of time. When participating in rigorous exercise or sport we are conscious of what we are doing from the outside. Heart’s pumping, limbs are moving, calories are being burned, general overall fitness. However, we need to be mindful that when the exercise is over, our bodies are still doing stuff to restore and repair. Every now and then a little helping hand in the form of regular massage goes a long way to supporting your muscles and fitness from the inside out. We strongly recommend that a sports massage is included in your health and fitness program to ensure full optimum use of your muscles.
The motions of massage enables the removal of waste products such as lactic acid and at the same time enables the flow of blood which carries vital nutrients and oxygen which are vital for muscle repair.
It is important that your muscles are able to relax and repair easily without the build up wasteful products which in turn can often cause pain. A constant build up of tension in the muscles from regular activity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves. These muscle imbalances may develop and often go undiagnosed until they are serious enough to cause discomfort or stop you from exercising altogether.
Benefits of regular sports massage include:
- Your body will generally be in better condition
- Prevent injuries and loss of mobility
- Restore mobility to injured muscle tissue
- Boost performance
- Keep you active and engaged in exercise for longer
Please don’t think that you have to be a serious runner or athlete to benefit from a sports massage, far from it. Whatever stage you are at in your exercise program, your muscles will be much improved and conditioned for exercise, extending your enjoyment and overall well being.
