Slimming Foods

Some foods contain nutrients and chemical compounds which activate your metabolism to burn fat faster. At TRANSFORM Personal Training we will teach you how to incorporate those foods into your routine by providing you with healthy recipes on a weekly basis. You could also try adding one new fat burning food each week to your daily eating routine.

You CAN burn calories as you digest these foods:

• Whole Grains
Your body burns twice as many calories breaking down whole foods (especially those rich in fibre such as oatmeal and brown rice).

• Lean meats
Protein has a high thermogenic effect. Turkey is one of the best meats you can eat, try it in a stir fry with plenty of spinach and green vegetables. YUM!

• Fish
Some fish such as salmon and mackerel are extremely high in Omega-3 fatty acids which aids fat loss by stimulating your metabolism. Omega-3 is similar to protein by making your body burn more calories while keeping your appetite in check.

• Naturally Low-fat dairy products
Rich in calcium and vitamin D, these help preserve and build muscle mass, essential for maintaining a healthy metabolism.

• Green tea
Green tea contains a substance known as epigallocatechin gallate, which is an antioxidant that helps your body make better use of a naturally occurring hormone and neurotransmitter called norepinephrine. The main metabolism effect of norepinephrine is that it sends signals to your body, telling it to start breaking down fat cells and using their stored energy.

• Hot peppers
Chilli peppers contain a compound called “capsaicin” which heats up the body, kick-starting your metabolism and helping you burn off excess calories. Capsaicin is present in fresh, pickled and dry peppers, along with flaked pepper spices like cayenne and red chilies.

• Green Vegetables
Vegetables like spinach and broccoli are packed with fibre and contain very few calories. Have a salad before a meal and you’ll be satisfied with smaller portions later.

• Berries
Berries are a natural source of antioxidants which are great for boosting your metabolism. They increase blood flow which helps muscle-growth and helps to cleanse your system. They’re also extremely low in calories so try to snack on them or add them to your oatmeal at breakfast.

• Cinnamon
Cinnamon is proven to lessen the effects of insulin response in the body which effectively stops you from storing fat. Try to sprinkle cinnamon on to your morning coffee, tea or porridge instead of sugar.
